Using inbuilt styles in MS Word
The use of inbuilt (or built-in) styles in MS Word has several advantages: you don't have to format items manually (e.g. selecting bold and 14pt for a certain heading), you don't have to worry about consistency, you can change your style at any point and all items with this style will be changed accordingly, you can easily build a table of contents (or any other type of table) by asking Word to generate on the basis of the heading styles you applied.
